Youth Basketball Frequently Asked Questions:
How are teams divided?
6U & 8U divisions: Teams will be divided randomly by Parks and Recreation staff with an emphasis on team balance based on age and gender.

10U and older divisions: Players will attend a player evaluation and be assigned to teams through a draft process to be conducted by the coaches.

Will siblings be placed on the same team?
Yes, siblings in the same household and age division will be placed together.

Could my player not make the team because of their performance at the player evaluations?
No. All registered players will be assigned to a team. The player evaluations/draft process is utilized only to better balance skill levels among the teams. Attendance at player evaluations is very important to the team assignment process and is our best tool for evenly balancing teams.

Can I make a request to be placed with a friend?
Yes, you may request that your child be placed on a team with a friend/neighbor. In the 6U and 8U divisions, we will try to ensure as many requests are honored as are feasible when dividing the teams while still maintaining our age and gender balance goals.

For players on teams in divisions 10U and above requests may be made, and coaches will be made aware of the requests during the draft - We cannot guarantee the same team placement in these age groups as players will be drafted to teams by coaches based on their evaluations of the players’ skill set.

What equipment does my child need?
All players should have athletic shoes and black shorts (without pockets whenever possible).

What size basketball will my child use?
27.5” (6U & 8U) / 28.5” (10U boys and girls, 12U boys, 11-13 girls) / 29.5” (13-15 boys)
