Junior Counselor Position Overview
Junior Counselors hold a crucial role in providing a safe, fun, and memorable experience for campers ages 5-12 years old. To be successful in this position, candidates must show a strong desire to work with children, maintain a positive attitude, collaborate with their peers, and demonstrate enthusiasm and patience throughout their work. Junior Counselors worked alongside the paid staff members to facilitate activities, ensure the well-being of campers, and serve as a positive role model.

• Supervise and engage campers in various activities, including sports, arts and crafts, nature activities, games, and team-building exercises.
• Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where campers feel encouraged to participate and express themselves.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times, including during activities, meals, and arrival and departure periods.
• Serve as a mentor and positive role model for campers, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and cooperation.
• Assist with the planning and organization of nature, crafts, outdoor games, and themed activities.
• Resolve conflicts and address behavioral issues in a calm and constructive manner, adhering to camp policies and procedures.
• Communicate regularly with camp leadership and fellow counselors to provide updates on camper progress and any concerns.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in camp facilities, equipment, and activity areas.
• Participate in staff training sessions, meetings, and evaluations to enhance job performance and professional development.
• Adhere to all camp rules, regulations, and safety guidelines to ensure a positive and enriching experience for all.

Specifics
• This position is for 14–16-year-olds.
(I am willing to make exceptions for mature 13-year-olds that have camp experience and show a strong desire to work with children.)
• This is a volunteer position. Junior Counselors are not monetarily compensated but can earn 40-55 volunteer hours per week of camp.
• JCs can sign up for as many or as few weeks of summer camp as they are interested in. However, we do ask that if they sign up for a week, they are able to be there Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m..
